Grow Lights For Light Therapy

If you are considering light therapy you may wonder if you can use grow lights for light therapy. The answer to this question is maybe. If the lights are full spectrum they may work quite well for this purpose. Full spectrum light mimics the effects of sunlight. Light boxes and lamps aren't actually the same thing, but do a good job at simulating the effects. Light therapy is commonly used to treat seasonal affective disorder, certain types of insomnia and even jet lag. A good way to get an introduction to light therapy is with full spectrum lightbulbs.

By using full spectrum lightbulbs in your home you get the benefits of natural light. Not only does your environment look better in good lighting you may find that you feel better as well. Of course light bulbs won't give you the same benefits as a light box. A light box is just that, a box that emits light. These boxes are made to be easy on the eyes and not emit ultraviolet radiation like sunlight does. They are safe and easy to use. All you do is sit in front of the box for a certain amount of time each day. That's all it takes to get the benefits of light therapy. There are different types of light boxes you may want to consider.

One is called the Blue Lux light box. Blue Lux combines high intensity with blue wavelength light to create a more efficient light therapy box. This box can be used from a far distance which means you don't have to sit right in front of it. Benefits can be found from only fifteen minutes of use as compared with one to two hours with traditional light boxes. You might also want to consider a portable light box device for when you're on the go. There are traditional and Blue Lux lights that are made for travel.

Grow lights for light therapy may be useful for very mild cases of winter blues, but for full blown SAD you will probably need a device made especially for this purpose. You can purchase light boxes from various online retailers including Light Therapy Products which carries a wide variety of products from which you can choose. It is always a good idea to consult with your doctor if you think you are suffering from SAD or any other form of depression.
